This credit introduces wastewater treatment starting from its historical evolution and legal framework. It then defines the objectives of wastewater treatment, analyzes the characteristics of wastewater and the parameters to define the flow to be treated, and finally describes the main wastewater treatment processes, providing the necessary knowledge for their selection.
This credit presents the methodologies and techniques for the sizing of all the processes that make up the water treatment line of a wastewater treatment plant.
The parameters that influence the design of each of the processes will be discussed, from pretreatment and primary and secondary treatment, with an in-depth look at biofilm processes, to disinfection.
Treatments with natural systems will also be presented.
This credit presents methodologies and techniques for the sizing of all the processes that make up the sludge treatment line of a wastewater treatment plant. The guidelines necessary to identify when it is advisable to anaerobically digest the sludge, as well as the techniques for sizing the gas line when anaerobically digesting the WWTP sludge, are indicated.
Additionally, the credit provides the necessary knowledge to quantify the energy use by obtaining electrical energy from the calorific value of the biogas produced in anaerobic digestion.
Finally, guidelines are also provided for sizing the deodorization process to avoid the appearance of unbreathable atmospheres in the WWTP.
This credit presents the emerging technologies in the field of water and sludge treatment.
The WWTP will be presented as a source of resources (fertilizers, energy, etc.) and its possible market, going from the concept of a WWTP as an energy consumer to a resource generator.
Specifically, the credit focuses on by-product recovery (biogas, energy, nutrients, sludge, etc.), control strategies and treatment of emerging contaminants.
