Participants of the AQUAFocus Operation and Maintenance of Wastewater Treatment Plants will gain specific knowledge on the following topics key aspects involved in the operation of a wastewater treatment plant in normal conditions, the operation in extraordinary and abnormal conditions and the possibilities associated with regeneration according to the final uses of the water.
The content of the program is especially suitable for those who professionals who need to control the processes of a WWTP.The course is designed to provide students with an understanding of the concepts of preventive and predictive maintenance, emission control, equipment regulation criteria, energy and reagent consumption and cost control in any working condition, as well as the keys to good management of the installation's personnel.
Today, with the current conditions of increasing urbanization, the tightening of environmental regulations, climate change and economic crises, which limit investments, it is essential to earmarking assets for preventive maintenance measures for high-performance facilities.
In order to optimally operate this type of increasingly complex and technologically advanced plant, it is vital to have well-trained specialists to help ensure safe, efficient and well-managed operating conditions.
This credit presents the operation under normal conditions of a wastewater treatment plant and highlights the most important aspects involved in the operation. The parameters and elements to be controlled will be presented, as well as the criteria used in each case. Specifically, the credit focuses on personnel management, control of each process of a WWTP, emission control, equipment regulation criteria, the consumption of a wastewater treatment plant (energy and reagents) and cost control.
This credit deals with the different topics of plant operation under abnormal or extraordinary conditions. It begins with the definition of extraordinary conditions in a wastewater treatment plant, derived from the usual problems that the sewage network may suffer: uncontrolled discharges, hydraulic overload in episodes of high rainfall and infiltrations, as well as odor problems or problems with bulking y foaming in the biological process, treatment capacity limitations or equipment failures. Subsequently, problems related to dry weather discharges, internal drainage management and operational problems in the anaerobic digestion and gas line are explained.
This credit presents the knowledge related to asset management in a purification facility, what it is used for and what tools can be used. Management methodologies are explained, as well as how to prepare an inventory of electrical and mechanical assets and how to carry out a correct revision of the installations. Finally, the concepts of preventive and predictive maintenance are developed.
This credit presents the topics related to the regeneration of water from a wastewater treatment plant. The different regeneration mechanisms are studied, as well as the criteria to select the most appropriate technologies, according to the final uses of the water. The most important operating parameters of the process are explained, as well as the criteria to define an appropriate analytical plan for the quality control of the treatment and the output water.
